readability of a text in a foreign language
When using texts in your lessons, it’s important to consider the level of the text you are offering. To engage students, it can be interesting to use a news article or a recent online text.
The 5% rule for effective reading
The readability of a text in a foreign language depends on how many words are unfamiliar to the student. As a general rule, no more than 10–15 words—or around 5% of the words on a page—should be unknown to the learner.
